Description :

There's a point in a heavy meal where a sweet drink stops helping. Three bites into the biryani, halfway through a plate of fried chicken — what you want then isn't more sweetness, it's something sharp enough to cut through. That's the job Clemon does, and a can is the format that delivers it cold.

The lemon alternative

Clemon is Akij Food & Beverage's lemon soft drink, and it's built on acidity rather than sweetness. Sharp, hard-carbonated, citrus-forward — closer to a lemon-lime soda than to a cloudy lemonade.

It's been on shelves here long enough that most households have a settled position on whether they're a Mojo family or a Clemon one. Plenty keep both, and use them for different meals.

What a can does that a bottle doesn't

The can format offers four things, and they're worth knowing because they explain the price.

It chills much faster. Aluminium conducts heat far better than plastic, so a can reaches drinking temperature well before a bottle of the same volume.

It holds carbonation better. Aluminium is completely impermeable, so fizz doesn't seep out across a long shelf life the way it slowly can through PET.

It blocks light entirely, which protects flavour in a way clear plastic can't.

It's one serving. Nothing left over to go flat, and no cap to lose.

Against that, a can can't be resealed — so it commits you to finishing it, which is fine at a table and less useful at a desk.

The price question

Being straight about it: BDT 40 buys this 250ml can or a 500ml Clemon bottle. Same money, half the drink.

Across the range, the per-litre picture looks like this:

  • 2-litre bundle — about BDT 60 a litre
  • 1-litre PET — about BDT 64 a litre
  • 500ml PET — about BDT 80 a litre
  • 250ml PET — about BDT 80 a litre
  • 250ml can — about BDT 160 a litre

So the can costs roughly twice as much per litre as any bottle. You're paying for the format rather than the drink, and that's a reasonable trade when you want something properly cold in fifteen minutes. It's a poor one when you're stocking a fridge.

Where citrus beats cola at the table

This is where Clemon earns its place rather than competing on price.

Acidity cuts through oil and resets the palate between mouthfuls. Consequently, a lemon drink works considerably better than a cola alongside biryani, tehari, fried chicken, kebabs, singara and anything chilli-heavy — the sorts of food eaten most here.

Cola, by contrast, brings caramel depth and a rounder sweetness. That suits burgers, barbecue and smoky food, where sweetness against char is the point. Alongside chilli, though, that same sweetness tends to sit on top of the heat rather than relieving it.

As a result, for a table of more than a few people, one of each covers more ground than two of either.

What's in it

Clemon is a carbonated lemon soft drink. This page publishes its nutrition with the basis stated, which is rare and worth using:

Per 250ml: 105 kcal, 26.5g carbohydrate, 26.5g total sugar.

That works out at roughly 10.6g of sugar per 100ml — the standard concentration across regular soft drinks — and about six teaspoons in a single can.

Chilling, and why the can wins

Nothing ships chilled, so allow time for the fridge whichever format you buy.

A can reaches drinking temperature in roughly fifteen minutes in ice water with a spoon of salt stirred in, or about twenty in the freezer. Ice water works faster because the water contacts the entire surface rather than just the air around it.

One caution on the freezer route: set a timer. Liquid expands as it freezes and a sealed can has nowhere to give, so a forgotten can will split.

Temperature matters more with a sharp drink than a sweet one. Warm, the acidity reads harsher and the carbonation flatter — which undoes most of what makes Clemon worth drinking.

The sugar-free option

Clemon Zero sits alongside this at BDT 50 for the same 250ml can. Worth knowing that citrus handles sugar removal considerably better than cola does, because a lemon drink is carried by its acidity, which sweetener substitution doesn't change. Cola relies on sugar for body as well as sweetness.

So if you've tried a zero-sugar cola and didn't get on with it, that tells you very little about how you'll find Clemon Zero. It's the easier switch of the two.

The rest of the range

Clemon runs from a 250ml PET bottle at BDT 20 up to a 2-litre bundle, in both cans and bottles, with Clemon Zero on the sugar-free side and a lime-and-mint Mojito variant. Mojo covers the cola side across a comparable range.

Clemon Can 250ml combines a tangy lemon flavour with lively carbonation, creating a crisp and refreshing drink that's enjoyable on any occasion. Its convenient can packaging also makes it easy to carry and enjoy on the go.

Depends on the meal. Clemon's acidity cuts through oil and spice, so it's the better match for biryani, fried snacks, seafood and anything chilli-heavy. Mojo's caramel sweetness works better with burgers, barbecue and smoky food. On a hot day with no food involved, most people find citrus more refreshing. They're both BDT 40 in the can, so it's a taste decision rather than a budget one.

Lemon — sharp and citrus-forward rather than sweet-lemonade style, with strong carbonation. If you know the lemon-lime soft drink category, it sits there rather than in the cloudy lemonade category.

Yes, and unusually it's available in the same can format — Clemon Zero Can 250ml, listed at BDT 50. That's a straight swap if you're avoiding sugar, which is worth knowing because Mojo Zero is currently only listed in a PET bottle. For a chilled, single-serve, no-sugar option, Clemon is the better-served brand.

Cans are dearer to produce and ship, and they carry a convenience premium: faster chilling, complete light protection, no leftover flat drink. Per litre the can works out at roughly BDT 160 against about BDT 80 for the 500ml bottle. Buy the can when you want one cold drink; buy bottles when you're stocking the fridge.
